Sitting on the family side of the table: Facing the Taboo Subjects, Death and Succession
Sitting on the family side of the table: Facing the Taboo Subjects, Death and Succession
Picture this: an Asian family business where the 2G and 3G have a massive age gap, causing competency, trust, experience, and communication style gaps to emerge. The 2G comprised siblings and had children late, while the 3G consisted of their eager cousins. To bridge the divide, the 3G were exposed to the business through executive education and role rotation, but an unconscious game of testing ensued. However, the real issue wasn't the experience gap or controlling nature, but rather the 2G's unfounded belief that they were invincible, stuck in a familiar operational routine, and charging ahead despite their age
Through Live Case Studies +Q&A , Leng and Melvyn will share how they gently, and persistently, putting the question of mortality – the Time Taboo– in front of the 2G. With the 3G, our work focused on helping them with their personal purpose. Why do you really want to take over the family business? To have better communication, they needed to also communicate that they cared and trusted each other.
